Owl Things Considered

Came across this little thing on the internet. Thought it was appropriate since I just had my first driving lesson yesterday.

Just click the link under it to see it move!

That's all for tonight.

Marvelous Music: Vonder & Bloom

Another example of great music in advertising. The Dutch duo Vonder & Bloom had this very cute song in quite a cute commercial. Oh, how I love the internet for helping us find the answer to almost every question!

I love the music video because it's so simple and shows so much of the city I live in.

Maybe the song has a bit of a cheesy feel, but it's catchy enough to not get annoying. I think this might be my summer song for this year.

In the mail...

Another exciting trip downstairs led me to discover I received an envelope in the mail that contained this:

Isn't this the cuttest button you've ever seen? I think it's superb! And the promotional card that came with it is very cute too.

It was made by Sarah Cowen from One Owl Please. I was lucky enough to receive one in the mail, in case you were not quite as fortunate, no worries! You can get them at her Etsy too:)

There's also a lovely blog where you get to admire Sarah's work and, like me, even get a chance at winning something she's made. And yes, there are lots and lots of owls!

Spotted

Found a lot of lovely (mostly) teal items this week. Here they are!

This lovely vintage beauty case.

I'm basically head over heels with this purse, it's perfect!

These custom pet pendants are incredible. So much fun and look a lot like the pets that were sent in too.

Another superb owl tee by Threadless.

I know I always need to control the urge to pop bubble wrap, but here's a little gadget that lets you induldge in that freaky need as much as you'd like.

Found these mini wallets and I think they're amazing! Especially fond of the mint one.

Has anyone else tried these? When I was little I used to get them in the US. I've never really been scared bugs and wasn't creeped out in the least. Want a lollipop with a bug in it? Sure!

Lovely Movies: Dan in Real Life

Even though I'd already loved the trailer I was still blown away by this amazing movie. It's very bittersweet and that's one of the things I love about it.

It's awkward, it's loving and it's the sadness in the funny parts that makes it even more hilarious.

The cast is great (and in case you watch Glee: it even had a little guest appearance by Will Schuester) and the music is phenomenal. There's a song by the family that's hilarious, but the rest of the soundtrack is superb too. It includes this song:

This film definitely spoke to my tendency to call most movies I watch my new favorite movie, although I'm pretty sure this really is one of them.

Pretty Paintings: Greg Simkins

A new art discovery always makes my day. And it sure did today when I found Greg Simkins! He's created such an extroardinary fantasy world, it's just unbelievable how anyone's imagination could deliver paintings as amazing as these.

He uses both colours and themes I absolutely adore and the detail is amazing! Like most cool artists, he has painted a few owls.
He reminds me of Scott Radke mixed with Dali, with a Mark Ryden technique and sometimes Miss Van like creatures. I'm a huge fan already and I wouldn't be surprised if you are after these pictures too. I put together a collection for you, it gets darker as you go. Enjoy!

All images belong to Greg Simkins of course.

Owl Things Considered

I am very excited about one of the latest additions to my owl collection. It's a mini pincushion ornament and it is amazing!

It came from an Etsy shop called Alleluja, I've blogged about it previously after I ordered a creature pendant there (you can see the post if you click here).

All of Sawako's creatures are one of a kind and wonderful, but that also means you need to be quick. Currently there are two more owls in the shop, the blue ones below. I don't know if there will be more after these so I thought I'd give you guys a heads up in time.

Aren't these amazing?! I'm so happy to have such a unique owl!

I'd say you make a perfect angel in the snow...

This morning I tackled all the issues I was having on the blog, about everything I wanted to change I changed. Sure they're small things, but you might notice a favicon here or a button-box there and it's grown to be about a half inch wider haha.

I'm exhausted now though as I didn't get much sleep. I was so nauseated and it reminded me way too much of the stomach flu I had a few months back. So I was up for hours trying to feel better and listening to Elliott Smith's wonderful music.

I really don't have any band names for you to compare it with, all I can say is it's great, relaxed and inspiring music and you should just take a listen.

Next time I'm painting I will definitely put his cd on, can't wait to try that!

Orchids

I went to visit a friend today for her birthday, she loves orchids a lot so I made her a pin.

A pin and perhaps a bookmark like this will be listed in the shop soon.

We also bought her a deep fuchsia colored notebook made of repurposed vintage leather. I stuck the pin on the packaging and, to stick with the theme, put it all in a very cool orchid gift bag.

Spotted

Here's just a collection of (orange) stuff that recently caught my eye. Hope you'll like it! I might do this more often.

This is probably my favorite owl ever! It's so serious and quirky at the same time. Don't you love this print?

Such a pretty shirt.

This is actually a working camera, can you believe that?!
Never get lost with this compass ring.
This humongous gummy bear is really edible, although I have no idea how and where you'd start.
Such a cute lunch bag.
This picture had me laugh, especially love the little beaver.

Last but not least, Danitashop has added some pretty amazing new earrings, rings and even necklaces.

Picture This...

I'm currently enrolled in a 3-class photography course. Yesterday I went to the second one, so there's only one left. It covers all the technical stuff (which is good, because that's what I wanted to know), so we haven't really been working creatively yet, but I've been told we'll have a different kind of assignment next week.

After yesterday's class I walked past this owl dress and could not resist! It's so pretty and comfortable and it even has pockets!

Today I wore it with one of my favorite owl rings.

I also went to get a bite and a drink (a deliciously sweet lemon iced tea) while reading a Kafka book I'd just picked up from a discount bookstore a few stores back.

The day before I went to get some pictures printed for the course when I spotted this gorgeous cat. S/he is very shy and you really have to trick him/her to look you in the eye, after which it will soon realize what s/he's doing and look away again. I can't believe I was lucky and quick enough to photograph the cat behind it's window.

I have a few other new things in store and will be back with more pictures soon. Including of some cameras.....

David Lanham

Just wanted to share this adorable work of art with you. It's made by David Lanham and it made me so happy. Cherry blossoms and an owl?! Can't really get any better than that, now can it?

What is up with...everything?!

These last couple of months everything, yes, EVERYTHING I had planned (except Cesar Millan's show, yay!) has been cancelled. I'm not kidding. Fun things I had planned with friends, picnic/Etsy meet-up, appointments, student mixers, online stuff, EVERYTHING! It is so weird and this sort of thing really makes you second guess yourself. I am pretty convinced Blogger went down because I was jinxed haha, so: sorry guys;)

Anyway after my umpteenth cancellation and quite a large disappointment today I decided to visit my dad instead where I watched Despicable Me for the first time. And that did make up for a lot!

I wasn't even aware of the fact that Jason Segel, whom I adore (lately I've been watching anything I come across with "Marshall" in it) did one of the voices. That was icing on the cake!
My grandma kicked me out before I could watch all the extras, but what I've seen so far was amazing. I always love any "making of" feature, and the mini-movies are adorable!

Owl Things Considered

Where I live seeing an owl isn't really an every day occasion. Sure, there are zoos and, yes, we have woods too, but there are only eight kinds living here and the chance of seeing one in the wild is pretty slim.
Being such an owl lover you can probably imagine how excited I was to have found an live owl webcam feed online.

"Molly the owl" has lots and lots of fans, she is very cute and absolutely beautiful! But there is more, her eggs have hatched a while back and I believe they are currently living with four owls under one roof.

The webcam is always on, you may not always see the owls though. And chances are you've missed some high-lights too. In that case you might want to check out the YouTube page. Here's a cute little video I spotted there:

I really wish I would have found this sooner though. It's so much fun to have the feed on full screen mode even when you're doing other things at the same time. It's a bit like the aquarium dvds only a hundred times cuter. And it feels so cozy seeing those little owls cuddling up together!

Marvelous Music: Ray LaMontagne

Ray LaMontagne's CD "Gossip in the Grain" has been permantly planted in my CD played ever since I got it for my birthday. It has the right amount of upbeat tunes and slow songs; a nice soulful vibe and just the kind of Country that even a European girl like myself can not resist.

The more I listen to it the more I love it. I've been playing some songs from other cd's as well, but this is a song one I still put on a lot.

This next one got me into his music in the first place:

And I could not leave you guys without posting this song as well:

He's quite a famous artist, I believe, but this might still have been a first for some of you. Hope you enjoyed it!

In the mail...

My birthday being just a few weeks back, I received some truly amazing belated gifts in the mail this weekend!

This one's from blogger ShimmyImmie, I knew there'd be something in the mail from her, but this was such an amazing surprise! Above: a copy of Jane Eyre she sent me(can't wait to read it!), along with an adorable owl card and the most beautiful angel wing earrings I have ever laid eyes on. And below you'll see a very cool Badtz-Maru purse and adorable Hello Kitty buttons! This was all such an amazing surprise, thank you so much!

Next up is from my dear friend Lily, who has such a great eye for so many things really, but among them: gift wrapping.

In the package I found this gorgeous matryoshka box that contained so many cute postcards, envelopes etc.

To top this all off, I'd been given a gift certificate to spend on boygirlparty items on Etsy. It always seemed such a great shop and now having seen the items in real life I can tell you they are not disappointing in the least.

Being such a sucker for pretty stationary I picked these notepads and labels. And because I liked the art so much, I chose a whole bunch of magnets, the really big ones I thought I'd use as paperweights. The small ones (being very strong) are perfect for my (super weak) magnetic board.

As you can see I've been spoiled this weekend! Granted I was by myself, but being given all these presents and seeing all the effort that went into it, I felt like I had a second birthday party!

Hope you had a great weekend too! Did you do anything special with your mom(or maybe kids) on Mother's Day?
