Lovely Movies: Brave

When I saw the trailer for "Brave" I knew I had to see it. It seemed so different from all previous Pixar animations story-wise, but so beautifully made as well.

I got to cross it off my list last weekend and it did not disappoint. What a wonderful movie!

Thankfully the trailer doesn't spoil the surprise this time -well except for a few jokes maybe- , so feel free to watch the whole thing!

Perhaps just as good was the short film they showed up front. Here's a glimpse:

Anyway, I'll end with a piece of advice: sit out all the credits at the end, you'll be rewarded! I was seriously the only one still in the movie theater, so everyone else missed it, but it was a great final surprise!

Dawanda Design Market -> favorites

Like I said yesterday, there were a lot of very cool shops at the Dawanda Design Market. Unfortunately I couldn't buy all.

Here are some things I really loved, but ended up leaving behind:
  1. I've always admired gemagenta on Etsy and happened to fit this ring(well the darker version of it) perfectly, but I just couldn't justify crossing my budget for it at the time. Perhaps one day!
  2. These owls, and Matroshkas were amazing, but too large to fit in my current place.
  3. Jeonga Choi sold the most amazing hats. If you ever need one for a special occasion, you must pay her a visit.
  4. Somehow I just didn't see the stamps by Stadtwald. Otherwise I probably couldn't have resisted them.
  5. These handmade clothes were constructed beautifully! Stretchy jersey is tough to sew, but the folks at MerryMoustache do a seriously immaculate job. And those collars...those collars!
  6. This owl was the softest one I'd ever seen! It even played an adorable song. Must get one if I ever have a kid.

I was truly impressed by all the great shops! And I really, really hope Dawanda will come to Amsterdam with a similar event some time in the future. If so, I'll be sure to start saving up ahead of time!

Dawanda Design Market ->loot

A little while ago I visited the Dawanda Design Market in Amsterdam. It was fantastic! Of course I couldn't resist buying a few treasures for myself.
One of the last -but one of my favorite- shops to visit was Swinging Chicks. I got an amazing handpainted t-shirt and a reversible collar necklace.
But my very first purchase of the day was this amazingly soft fox top from ilovemixtapes. You might want to check them out for owls too, they have loads!

I also picked up a few vintage brooches from Diversitijd. They will definitely pop up in some outfit posts.

And I'm such a fan of necklaces like these! Spullen van Blom had a lot of cute ones, but this one caught my eye immediately.

Near the entrance you could sit down and do some crafting yourself. There were huge crochet hooks and knitting needles and t-shirt yarn in all colors imaginable. Here's one of my projects:

As you can see it was a pretty spectacular day! Had I had a bigger budget I would've bought a lot more even. But I really can't complain, can I? Nevertheless, I'll post some items I missed out on soon.

Owl Things Considered

I've found the most intricate owl cardigans a while back! This first one looks a lot like stained glass windows. And I love how it combines so many different patterns.

The second one is stunning as well and is available in either white or green. It seems like they made one for winter and one for fall, don't you think?

Which one if your favorite?

Circle Songs #13

"Please do not expect me to wrap it up and keep it there..."

Misread - Kings of Convenience
{picture source: 1 - 2 - 3}

For such a sad story, this is still a very comforting and quite a catchy song. Just the combination I needed today.

Thanks, Gabbie!

Spotted

On such a grey day as today I could use something happy. Something bright. How about some red hearts?

And with this rain this umbrella would be perfect!

I have always found this such a clever -yet still very elegant- necklace.

I like to change things up every once in a while, so I would never do something as permanent as stretching my lobes. Thankfully there are fake ones. And they are beautiful.

A collar and a tiny bit of skin? How elegant! And I'm guessing this top would even work with jeans.
If my budget -and house- were bigger, I'm sure I'd have a huge hat collection...

Till that happens I'll gladly settle for brooches.
And I love a nice necklace as well.

As a stamp collector and a passionate knitter, I am really loving this!

Another knitting item to make my jaw drop. Can you believe these little owls?

And it only makes sense to share a knitting pattern too. And what better than these illusion-socks?!

Have you found any nice hearts lately?

Wishlist

Ever since I first laid eyes on them I've been smitten with the animal necklaces from HoshikaDesign. They are so beautiful and just incredibly cute! I also love how it combines papercut-art with the sturdiness of silver.
There are so many of them! It would be hard to pick a favorite, wouldn't it?

Anyway, click here to check out the shop. And you can also visit the artist's website if you're interested in some real papercut designs.

Review: Firmoo

The wonderful folks from Firmoo asked me to review their glasses. Though they have a huge amount of pretty frames, I instantly fell for these green babies.

They are wrap around sunglasses, which means they'll stay put, but are still very comfortable to wear. And the other handy -and pretty- feature, is the gradient fade of the glasses. I love the way that looks! And it makes reading and taking the stairs a lot easier too.

But the details are what I love most about these great shades. It has a super cute bow on the sides and the legs end it this elegant heart-like shape.

The service was also great! I got a tracking number, so I could see how long they'd take. And it only took 4 days for them to get from China all the way to Amsterdam. They were sent in a sturdy case and arrived in perfect condition.

I, myself, don't need prescription glasses, but if you do, you can still get any of the sunglasses custom made. And you can even get your first pair for free! You only need to pay the shipping. Read more about it here.

And of course Firmoo offers lots of regular glasses too. It's actually the most popular online glasses store worldwide.

Final Verdict

I'm extremely satisfied! The glasses look beautiful, are comfortable to wear and are of good quality. The shipping was incredibly fast and the service was great as well.

P.S. These are all my honest opinions. Firmoo sent me the glasses, but I wasn't paid to do this review. And I was in fact encouraged to give my objective opinion.

Analogue Adventures

These are some of the pictures from my very first batch of fish-eye pictures. The statue in the first one stood in my city for quite a while, but sadly it's gone now. I really miss that turtle.

Owl Thing Considered

This weather makes me wish I had more summer dresses. And this one seems like a musthave for me.  I love the simple cut, the intricate back, the stunning colors and of course the little owls!
In case you're getting pretty greedy too... it's available on Modcloth.

Melting Away...

You might have noticed things are a bit quiet here. No, I'm not busy with other things. No, I haven't gone on some impromptu vacation. I've simply been doing this:

It's too hot to do anything and too hot to think. Especially indoors.
And as tough as it is for the humans in the house, I imagine my cat really drew the short straw with her permanent fur coat.

Anyway, things should be cooling down this week, so I'll be back with more elaborate posts soon.

And if you happen to have any tips to help cool me, my cat or this house down, please share!

Drumroll Please...

Lots of people entered, but only one of you will receive this lovely owl necklace from Miss Evil Kitty.

Thank you all for joining! And be sure to visit Miss Evil Kitty's wonderful shop. Gabbie's filled it with lots of amazing handmade items,  like these bobby pin mixes. You can even get subscriptions for them!

If you're looking for owl items, you'll definitely succeed! But she also offers loads of pretty earrings, rings and necklaces with flowers in all colors.

Looks great right? And don't worry, the prices are great too, so hop on over there.
