Owl Things Considered

Owls generally get me pretty excited, but especially so when they're incorporated into very clever designs! And DAINTYmeBOUTIQUE has a very clever product indeed: stacking rings that make a whole animal hug your finger!

And they have a bunch of different animals too! From pets to woodland to very exotic. All enamel and all beautiful.

The "hugging" ones are extremely clever, but this squirrel definitely is too! I love how he's kind of stuck between your fingers as he reaches for the acorn. And his tail is such a nice finishing touch, isn't it?! I love it!

I also had to show you this hedgehog. It's "just" one ring, but it is adorable enough to melt your heart.

Lastly, I'm also very smitten with these bunny earrings! They're cute as well as elegant. And I love their golden noses.

There's plenty more in the shop to marvel at. I'm definitely going to check in every now and then... I have a feeling this shop might release many other interesting things in the future. Whoever's behind it clearly has great ideas!

Cast Off: Forest Fairy

Last year I got a newsletter from a yarn store that featured a gorgeous top. The moment I saw it I knew I had to make one. So I ordered the yarn and pattern and when that flu struck last month, I churned the top out in record time.

This was a fun project to make and I'm quite proud of the result. But I actually would not have had many things to pair it with if it weren't for my lovely mom that treated me to a beautiful vintage shirt a while back. It's a perfect match!

The sequins are a bit scratchy, I could have used slightly smaller needles and I kind of wished I hadn't cast off the stitches in the armpit like the pattern instructed, but despite all those things I am still very smitten with this project!

I know this isn't my first leafy project and it most likely won't be my last. Apparently I just love knitted leaves...

Lovely Movies: From up on Poppy Hill

Whenever I find a Studio Ghibli dvd I know I need to jump at the opportunity quickly. (I unfortunately learned this the hard way.) Recently I got lucky and found From Up On Poppy Hill, which I'd been wanting to see for quite some time.

It was adorable. Though not at all magical, which is quite unusual for Studio Ghibli. However, it is unmistakingly Studio Ghibli. The music, the drawing style, the overall atmosphere… even the personalities of the characters.

Anyway, I was so stoked to cross another one of these movies of my list! I still have quite a bunch to go, but I've seen the majority of the feature films now, and though it's getting harder, I won't give up on tracking down the last ones!

Wishlist

I am a big fan of Threadless. They have so many different styles of illustrations as well as different garment fits and I find myself quite smitten with something every time I browse their website. So it's quite a dangerous website to visit...

This time a sloth shirt caught my eye. It's called pi-sloth-tes and would definitely make for a nice work-out or lounge shirt. I love the colors of the illustration and the scoop neckline of the shirt. And it's just so cute and funny!

Cast Off: Surrounded by Owls

I was bound to make an owl sweater at some point, wasn't I? This Kate Davies pattern is just so beautiful, as was the yarn I used. It took a while to make, and a whole lot of buttons, but it was so very worth the time, money and effort!

Of course it's completely the wrong season to be wearing it, but I'm still glad I finished it now. And who knows… some cold summer night I might still get some use out of it. And otherwise I'll just be ready when Autumn comes.

There's actually another owl sweater -with a lace pattern instead of cables- that I'll also be making, but before I cast that one on I have some other projects to do. Including designing my own little owl item, but more on that later...

Beautiful Brooch + Sale Tip

A few years back I ordered a beautiful brooch from an amazing blog shop called Vestida de Domingo. I was in awe of the mixed media technique combined with the details of the miniature portraits and the personalities it captured.

One of the reasons I picked the above brooch was that I had just designed and made myself a sweater that looked very much like the one in the portrait. And they look perfect worn together! I'll do a separate post on that in the winter!

As you can see it was an absolute treat to receive in the mail! It came with a handmade box and an amazing drawing that still makes me happy everytime I look at it.

Anyway, I'm so happy to say that Vestida de Domingo is still up and running and full of beautiful pieces! In fact, there is currently a sale going on with lots of beautiful brooches and necklaces, a lot of which are currently 50% off.

This is just a selection of what is still available. There are so many gorgeous brooches and necklaces! Some with painting and felt or crochet, others entirely crocheted and then there are necklaces that are painted on both sides!

So I suggest you visit the beautiful shop and take a look around. It might be hard to choose from all these gorgeous pieces, but I'm sure you'll find something beautiful to add to your wardrobe. I actually ended up picking three...

Plans & Goals: July

Sorry! I did not intend to quit blogging for a month, but I was just overwhelmed and also caught my annual summer flu, so I guess I just needed a break. Hopefully I'll be able to catch up on some blogging in July! And I also hope to:

  • Find a good balance between rest, play and necessary errands.
  • Show you some knitting projects I finished.
  • Take time to follow along with a music tutorial.
  • Do some sort of book blogpost again.
  • As well as an outfit post.
  • Hang out at the park.
  • Go see the movie Infinitely, Polar Bear.
  • Send out some snail mail.
  • Take some more mixed-media pictures… (More on that later!)

What are you hoping to do in July? Any vacation plans maybe?
